Keith Y.
Private tutor in Hamden, CT
Education
M.S. in applied mathematics from Brown University (1996), M.A. in mathematics from Wake Forest University (1993), B.M. in music performance from North Carolina School of the Arts (1980).
Experience
I tutored extensively as a TA at both Brown and Wake Forest, mostly one-on-one, but also in group sessions. I'd like to put my math training to good use by helping students who believe that math is too difficult. It's not easy to become good at it, but neither is any other subject. It's not that hard either. given some time and a creative approach that most textbooks don't provide. I prefer to teach from my house (parents are welcome) but can travel a bit if need be.

Hobbies
I'm currently employed as a crossword puzzle editor but continue to play music frequently (I'm a tuba player). I was a professional musician for 17 years and played all over the world (one of my groups toured Japan and we also played at the Knoxville Wold's Fair). Now I play in a rock band, the Gene Gnomes (I play the bass part on amplified tuba), a dixieland band, and a group that plays live music accompanying silent movies. We compose our own scores for these. I enjoy reading and spending time with my wife, who is a neuroscientist at Yale, and our standard poodle Luka. We have no children, but there are 7 nieces and nephews that we dote on.
